Walk for Drew benefits local boy with rare disease

People were walking to raise money for a local boy with a rare disease in Salem today.

The Walk for Drew at Roanoke College was to benefit eight-year-old Drew Bennett.

He was diagnosed with Pseudo-obstruction, meaning he was born without a functioning stomach or small intestine. Bennett is one of only two people in the world that has the disease.

"He's had over 15 surgeries and he's had a lot of other complications as a result of the disease so it's really important that people band together and really help out," said Selena Watkins. Watkins is President of the Students Interested in Health Careers Association at Roanoke College.
