WDBJ7 delivers dozens of stockings for needy kids

WDBJ7 asked for your help and you delivered.

On Wednesday morning, the Salvation Army picked up dozens of stockings.

People picked up empty stockings, filled them up and brought them back to WDBJ7.  Those stockings will help a lot of needy children across the area.

We also filled the truck with lots of presents from our 'angel tree'.

"Oh this is absolutely wonderful," says Charles Simmons with the Salvation Army, "It's such a help. It's one of the toughest things to look and see empty places on the floor which represents a family."

All the gifts are taken to a warehouse in Roanoke County. They will be sorted according to family.

New this year, the Salvation Army is hosting a free community open house. It's their way of saying thanks to people who helped out.

The event is this Monday evening.
