A Roanoke County house fire that caused $145,000 in damage was started by combustible items placed too close to a wood stove’s metal flue pipe, according to fire investigators.

The fire was reported around 7 p.m. Saturday in the 5600 block of Midway Drive.

The family of five that lived inside the home escaped the fire without being hurt.

The volunteer assistant chief of the Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Company said that when he was dispatched, he could see flames from the home.
