UPDATED: Woman, baby escape Roanoke County house fire

UPDATED: 11/20 3:45 a.m.

We now know some oil left on the stove is to blame for a house fire in Roanoke County.

The woman who lives at the home on Oakland Boulevard at Magnolia Road says she left the kitchen for just a moment. When she came back the oil was on fire, and the flames were spreading to her cabinets.

The family is staying with relatives for now.

A woman and her baby escaped a house fire in Roanoke County on Monday afternoon.

The fire was called in around 4 p.m. in the 5600 block of Oakland Boulevard.

When firefighters got to the home they found a single-story wood-framed house with smoke coming from the side.

The woman went to a neighbor’s house to report the fire.

Firefighters from the North County and Hollins stations put the fire out in a few minutes.

Investigators are still on scene.
