Roanoke has debated the future of Elmwood Park for years. Now, major improvements are under way there.
A fence has gone up around the park, and the heavy equipment is moving dirt on the property.
The $6.4 million project includes an amphitheater with seating for more than four thousand people.
Steve Buschor is Roanoke's Director of Parks and Recreation. "We are off and running," Buschor told us in an interview. "The clock is ticking. We gave them the notice to proceed about two weeks ago, and obviously the demolition work is being performed as we speak."
The contractor hopes to complete the footings for the amphitheater before winter weather becomes too severe. The park improvements should be completed by late August or early September of next year.
