The remnants of Hurricane Sandy can be seen across Central Pennsylvania, including massive power outages and downed trees and power lines. More than a half dozen fallen utility poles in Spring Grove and Jackson Township along Route 116 left some community members in the dark. Parts of Route 116 were closed as Met-Ed and Verizon crews worked to restore service.
“We been sleeping out on the living room floor,” said Janet Senft, Jackson Township. “We had a portable DVD player that lasted for two hours and we had a radio with batteries that only lasted a little bit.”
Senft received a generator from the York Salem fire department Tuesday evening in an effort to get back life back to normal. At the height of the storm, Met-Ed reported 250,000 homes lost power. Tuesday night, in York County alone, close to 4,000 homes remained in the dark.
