RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Henrico police say a knife wielding robbery suspect stormed into a coin exchange in Highland Springs Thursday afternoon and ran out with a bullet wound to the shoulder.
Willie Joe Davis, 23, has now been charged with robbery, attempted robbery and wearing a mask in public.
Police say after a store clerk shot Davis, he was found in a neighboring yard behind the business. Henrico police tell CBS 6's Jon Burkett that Davis confessed to robbing the A-Z Coin Exhange three months ago on top of Thursday's attempt.
Long time employee Edward Ratcliff was on duty for both robberies and said after the first one; he made it a point to bring his gun to work. Ratcliff said he never thought he'd have to use it, until the back door swung open and a masked man ran in. "He started running at me with the knife and he wasn't slowing down. After I shot him--he tackled me. It was a tough decision but one I had to make." Ratcliff was back at work Friday.
He says he's not shaken about the incident, just surprised. Ratcliff says the suspect on his way out lost the knife, his shoe fell off and apologized as he stumbled towards the back door he had just kicked open.
