AFLCIO calls for full investigation into stage collapse

The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations asked Mitch Daniels Thursday to thoroughly investigate the State Fair stage collapse.

Several local unions are affiliated with the AFLCIO, including the one representing stagehand Nathan Byrd.

Officials are asking the governor to ensure a complete and impartial investigation into the collapse. Jeff Harris, with the Indiana AFLCIO, said they specifically want answers into what exactly State Fair staff members were doing as the storm approached.

"What we are asking for is an investigation of the decision making process that State Fair officials engaged in that left the workers up on the stage and left the workers in danger," Harris said.


The organization said it is not trying to point fingers or pick a fight, it simply wants to make sure that all Hoosiers are kept safe while at work.
