CBS stars live on Twitter
Recently, "NCIS" star Pauley Perrette (@PauleyP on Twitter), "NCIS: Los Angeles" star LL Cool J (@LLCoolJ), "Survivor" host Jeff Probst (@JeffProbst), and "The Good Wife" writers Corinne Brinkerhoff and Meredith Averill (@GoodWifeWriters) gathered at CBS Studios to talk about what this social media outreach has meant to them.
Here are some highlights:
LL Cool J on why Twitter: "For me, it was just all of a sudden realizing that people were hearing about things and were aware of things that I wasn't aware of, whether it was, quite frankly, through watching television and listening to the radio. ... I felt like I was out of the loop, and I needed to be in the loop."
Probst on why the others' tweets are more profound than his "Survivor"-centric ones: "See, this is what I mean about following these guys. They have got AIDS walks, saving shelters, spiritual quotes. All I'm saying is, 'All right, this challenge is really hot.' "
Averill on what the "Good Wife" writers get from Twitter: "We solicit and ask for feedback from our followers. We have informal polls, where we will just say, 'Who was your favorite judge on the show?' It is often really illuminating and surprising, the responses that we get."
Adds Brinkerhoff: "It is also fantastic to experience those moments that we loved as writers, and that we were there for the genesis of, and then to experience it live to the people who are watching it. I hope it makes us better writers. Certainly it makes us more enthusiastic and excited about what we're doing every day."
Perrette on turning the camera around: "I rescue dogs. So I'm like, 'Send me a picture of your dog.' Hundreds of thousands. I love any puppy or kitten. I am a softy, but then I like to look around their houses, too. ... We are in their house every night. They are looking at us in their living rooms, so we get to see their living rooms, which is fun."
