The Spring sports season came to an end Saturday, with6 new area state champions crowned. In girls soccer, Blacksburg earned its first ever state title, defeating Kettle Run 1-0 in the 3A title game. Jane Everett scored the Bruins’ goal in the second minute. In group 4A, Jefferson Forest fell to Dominion in penalty kicks 4-3. Katie Cousins had a pair of goals for the Cavaliers.

In boys soccer, it was an all local 1A title game where Galax edged-out Radford 2-1, and in group 3A the Blacksburg boys were hoping to follow suit with the girls team, but fell short in penalty kicks 3-2 to Western Albemarle.

Only two teams remained on Saturday on the diamond—both in softball. William Campbell fell in the 1A title game to Rappahannock 5-0, and in group 3A, Brookville came away with the crown, beating Turner Ashby 10-4.

On the tennis courts for the boy team championships, Hidden Valley defeated Blacksburg 5-2 to earn the 3A crown, and in 4A boys E.C. Glass beat Loudoun Valley 5-2 to win the championship. In girls tennis, Radford beat Auburn 5-2 to take home the 1A State Championship.
