VMI Could Be Reunited With Southern Conference
VMI was a member of the Southern Conference from 1924 to 2003. And now it appears as if the Keydets could be headed back to the SoCon after eleven years in the Big South.
The Southern is losing Davidson to the Atlantic 10, as well as perennial football powers Georgia Southern and Appalachian State to the Sun Belt Conference.
VMI and the Southern Conference have had informal discussions for the last 6 to 8 months on the matter but Wednesday it gets serious. A delegation of seven to ten administrators and athletic directors from the SoCon will conduct a site visit on post in Lexington to tour the facilities, including Cameron Hall and Foster Stadium. It's expected to take half a day.
The next step would be for the league to offer an invitation to join following its annual meetings at the end of the month in Hilton Head.
The Southern Conference is also said to be considering Mercer and East Tennessee State.
