CONFERENCES
ESD remains at eight
The Eastern South Dakota Conference has rejected membership requests by Harrisburg, Rapid City Central, Rapid City Stevens and Sturgis.
The four schools had requested to become members of the eight-school conference in the fall of 2013. Only Aberdeen Central was in favor of adding the new members. Brandon Valley, Brookings, Huron, Mitchell, Pierre, Watertown and Yankton were against the move.
The Greater Dakota Conference of the four Class AA Sioux Falls schools, Rapid City Central and Stevens, Sturgis and Spearfish will dissolve after the 2012-13 school year. The GDC will lose a member after this year as Spearfish is moving to the Black Hills Conference.
The new Metro Conference is set to begin in the fall of 2013. Set to become a member of the Metro are the four Sioux Falls schools and Brandon Valley, which said it will remain a member of the ESD as well. The ESD started as the South Dakota Big Eight Basketball Conference in 1924 before changing to its current name three years later.
