Virginia Tech had their second full day in El Paso, but their second bowl practice began with some bad news as the Hokies found out they will be without one of their top performers.
Hokies senior cornerback Antone Exum was the team's MVP in last season's Russell Athletic Bowl win over Rutgers but he won't be on the field for his final game in a Tech uniform, unable to recover from a November ankle injury.
"After watching Antone yesterday, I don't think he's going to make it for the game," said Defensive Backs Coach Torrian Gray. "He didn't move well enough, don't think he's going to be full speed."
Exum overcame a torn ACL in January and made it back mid-season. But with the latest news, his star-crossed final year in Blacksburg consisted of just 3 games and is now over. Exum did not address the media Satuday but for those around him, it's a tough pill to swallow.
"He's definitely been trying real hard. Nobody can't put that against him," said Kyshoen Jarrett. "He's definitely a hard worker, just rehabbing everyday and just making sure he's right"
