CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — -

NASCAR's Bruton Smith wants to make $100 million of improvements at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

And Smith suggested to Gov. Pat McCrory on Thursday he might ask the state to provide some of the money for improvements at the track in Concord.

Smith pointed out that Charlotte is spending $88 million to improve the 17-year-old Bank of America Stadium in order to keep the Carolina panthers. Smith said he built his track in 1960.

WBTV reported that Smith asked McCrory if he wanted to discuss the issue now. The governor said they should talk later.

State lawmakers allowed Charlotte to use targeted revenue for the Panthers stadium improvement, but did not provide any state funding.

Track spokesman Scott Cooper says there are no specific improvement plans to announce now.
