A total of five changes highlight the sixth wrestling rankings of the winter season. With the season closing in on regional tournaments, wrestlers are settling into their positions at the top. Catch up on the latest movements below.

Garden City’s AJ Hurtado and Dane Edwards of Dodge City continue to play jump rope with who is ranked No. 1 in 138. This week, though, it’s Hurtado that takes the top spot, as Edwards in bumped down to No. 2. Lawrence’s Andrew Denning takes over the top ranking in 182 to mark the only other individual change at the top in 6A.

Garden City remains as the top-ranked team in 6A, as Michael Prieto and Tevin Briscoe hold on to their No. 1 rank in 106 and 132, respectively. Junction City stays at No. 2 as a team and Manhattan is now the No. 3 team, moving Derby down to No. 4. Wichita Northwest stays at the No. 5 spot as a team.

Michael Helms of Ark City moved up in weight to 160 and was replaced by teammate Wyatt Villers at 152. Helms is now ranked at No. 2 in 160 behind Emporia’s Noel Torres, who has not moved from the top spot all season. Ark City’s Cody Eastman is the No. 1 wrestler at 145.

However, despite all those sensational rankings, Ark City is ranked No. 2 as a team behind St. James Academy. The Thunder moved into the top spot for the first time this season this week. St. Thomas Aquinas sits at No. 3, Topeka Seaman and Valley Center round out the top five, respectively.

Not a single change occurred in the No. 1 rankings throughout all the individual weights of 4A. Most wrestlers have been ranked No. 1 for most, if not all, of the winter season.

Fort Scott takes the No. 4 spot as a team, as former No. 4 Goodland moved down to the sixth spot. Colby kept a hold of the No. 1 spot and Bonner Springs remained as the No. 2 team in 4A. Andale and Chanute stayed at No. 3 and 5, respectively.

There were two changes at the top of the individual ranks in 3-1A, as Silver Lake’s Haegen Schaefer took the No. 1 ranking from Macrae Migchelbrink of Rawlins County in 120. The other change came as Harrison Gilliland of Plainville moved into the top spot at 195 ahead of Sabetha’s Tyler Edelman, who fell to No. 6.

Plainville and Norton both moved up one spot in the team rankings to No. 1 and 2, as Scott City fell to third. Hoisington and Hoxie round out the top five of 3-1A.
