Last week it was the boys who had their turn at tournament week, but it’s the girls’ turn now. Most teams across the state are in a tournament played all around Kansas. Catch all the latest scores below.
GIRLS
McPherson Tournament
McPherson’s Katelyn Loecker led all players with 17 points in a 68-28 embarrassment of Hays. No Hays player scored in the double digits. Andale whipped Wichita Southeast 60-41. Manhattan slipped past Valley Center 48-44. Olathe South made itself right at home in a 67-35 beating of Dodge City.
El Dorado Tournament
Wichita East throttled a struggling Collegiate squad 68-35. Circle beat rival and host El Dorado 42-31. Gardner-Edgerton didn’t mess around with Augusta in a 58-28 thrashing. Shawnee Mill Valley nearly doubled up Wichita West 60-32.
Haven Tournament
Buhler opened a big lead and didn’t let up in a 52-32 win over Cheney. Haven made Halstead look bad in a 45-29 triumph. Conway Springs sped by Kingman 43-30. Nickerson had no answer to Moundridge as the Wildcats thrashed the Lady Panthers 62-18.
Ell-Saline Tournament
Lyons found no trouble with Little River in a 40-25 Lions victory. Host Ell-Saline found comfort on its home floor as it beat Bennington 54-32.
Newton Tournament
Host Newton kept Bishop Carroll from getting too comfortable in a 46-31 first-round win. Olathe Northwest belted Andover Central 61-39. Top-ranked Kapaun Mt. Carmel sent Goddard into the losers’ bracket with a 64-30 Lady Crusader win. Shawnee Mission Bishop Miege scrapped its way past Garden City 48-44.
Emporia Tournament
Host Emporia took care of Goddard Eisenhower 72-57. Topeka Seaman moved on to the winners’ bracket with a 60-45 victory over Lawrence. Blue Valley Stilwell took down Derby 61-47. Leavenworth dominated Hutchinson 63-23.
Mulvane Tournament
Host Mulvane moved into the championship game with a 49-34 win over Clearwater. The Lady Wildcats will find Garden Plain waiting for them, as the Lady Owls smacked Wellington around a bit in a 47-30 win.
The Wichita Defenders handed Ark City another loss 52-36. Ark City has yet to win this season. Campus came away with a 53-43 win over Winfield.
Berean Academy Tournament
Hutch Central Christian didn't score more than five points in a quarter as it got boatraced by Burrton 31-14. Stafford didn't score more than nine points in a quarter in a 50-24 loss at the hands of Bluestem.
Wichita Trinity was able to come away with a 45-35 win over Douglass thanks to 16 points from Kristin Miller of Trinity. Douglass' Sarah Wright dropp 14 points in the loss. Berean nearly doubled up Goessel 40-21. Carrie Unruh led all players with 16 points.
Pratt Tournament
Morgan Osborne of St. John-Hudson scored 21 points in a win over Wichita North 56-23. 6A No. 2 Wichita South romped Medicine Lodge 64-16. Pratt shawed Larned the door 80-15. Maize South thanks Chaparral for coming in a 46-24 beatdown.
Sedgwick Tournament
Wichita Independent slipped past Belle Plaine 48-43. Sedgwick won on its home floor 48-34 over Canton-Galva. Hutch Trinity was a 44-37 winner over Remington. Fairfield fell to Inman 48-41.
Shawnee Heights Tournament
Maize came away with a 46-36 win over Shawnee Mission East. Wichita Northwest wasn't able to finish off Topeka in a 53-48 loss. Wichita Heights destroyed Junction City 71-23. Shawnee Heights couldn't get it done on its home floor as it lost to Great Bend 58-47.
SPIAA League Tournament
Kiowa County held Hodgeman County to 12 combined points in the second and third quarters and didn't let up as the Lady Mavericks won 63-38. Kiowa County's Heather Melton led all players with 15 points. South Gray scored just seven second half points in a 53-34 losing effort to Fowler.
Bucklin held on for the 45-41 win over Ashland. Ingalls was able to come away with a 40-35 victory over Spearville.
BOYS
Maize South jumped out to a 16-8 first-quarter lead and was able to hang on despite a 29 point fourth quarter from Winfield. The final score was 73-68. Micah Kiser of Maize South led all players with 23 points. Counterpart Brett Barney dropped 19 points in the win. Emporia was a 73-60 winner over Manhattan. Beloit more than doubled up on Osborne 75-35. Hoisington's Cody Stetler scored 30 points to lead his team to a 73-60 victory over Thomas More Prep.
