Virginia opens conference play Saturday with a trip to Atlanta and a date with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. It will be another meeting between the Cavaliers and their former head coach Al Groh, the defensive coordinator for the Jackets.
Seniors and redshirt-juniors from UVA were on the roster in Groh's final season, 2009.
Mike London was the D-coordinator under Groh and knows his system well. Though London also sees plenty of new wrinkles to worry about in this 2012 version of the Jackets.
"The defense has changed for him over the last couple of games or maybe this past season where he is doing a lot more 3-4 with movement, some 4-3 with Attachou, one of their best players rushing on the outside,” London said. “So the coaches have always been really good at game planning and scheming the blitz of the month, for the game. He's always really good at seeing what you do now and coming up with something that maybe he hasn't shown in the last two games."
