BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Erick Green has made what looked like a bleak situation as injuries mounted for Virginia Tech seem more like a hopeful one for now, and the future.
The sophomore guard was pressed into extended duty because of a season-ending injury to shooting guard Dorenzo Hudson in early December, and his play at point guard has not only freed Malcolm Delaney up to play shooting guard, but shown that Green's future is bright.
The Hokies (14-6, 4-3 atlantic Coast Conference) have won 10 of 12 games since Green moved into the starting lineup, and last week he was the ACC's player of the week.
After averaging 2.6 points on 29 percent shooting in limited duty as a freshman, Green is scoring 10.8 points per game this year and making 44 percent of his shots from the field.
