Shot at respect for Virginia Tech and the ACC

It is an ACC-Big Ten matchup Tuesday night in the Sugar Bowl. And a good chance for the Hokies to prove their worth against a powerhouse football team, in a powerhouse football conference.

It is all about representing your conference in these bowl games. But the ACC hasn't had the best of luck, especially this year.

Of the twelve ACC teams eight were bowl eligible. But so far they are 2-4 as a conference. The only teams that have won their bowl games were N.C. State and Florida State.

As for the two remaining games, it is up to Clemson and Virginia Tech to try and pull the conference up to .500 as the two ACC teams playing in Bowl Championship Series games.

"I think anytime you're playing in the ACC right now, you want to do well for the ACC because we haven't won enough games against outside competition," said Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer. "When you're in competition against other conferences like you do in a bowl game, you want to win. You want to give it your best shot."

The Big Ten has not faired so well either during this bowl season. The conference is just 3-6 so far. Tonight will be its only matchup against an ACC team.
