The last time Virginia Tech canceled its spring football game was back in April of 2007, in the aftermath of the shootings on campus a week before.
Saturday's scheduled wrap-up to spring football practice was wiped-out too -- this time by thunderstorms in Blacksburg.
The game will not be made up, after a round of storms moved-over Lane Stadium around 3:45 -- about 15 minutes before the game's scheduled start time.
The tentative plan was to play it around 5:30, but another batch of storms came through and nixed that idea. While disappointing, for the players, coaches, and fans, Coach Beamer says the Spring session overall was a success.
While the lack of a spring game was a downer, it was a big recruiting weekend on campus, as Coach Beamer's staff picked-up six big verbal commitments Saturday, including ones from dual threat quarterback Bucky Hodges and defensive back Charles Clark of King's Fork High School in Suffolk.
