The William Fleming Colonels failed to turn the scoreboard on opening night last week against Franklin County. This week things figured to be equally tough against an Amherst County team that lived on big plays in week one.
The Colonel did his part in keeping everyone entertained on a steamy night in the valley. Amherst's Marquis Brown came out pretty hot himself. After an early TD run, he blasted in from two yards out to give his team a 15-0 lead in the first quarter.
Khalil Bonds then stole some of that momentum back for the homestanding Colonels, as he stepped in front of a pass and raced 40 yards all the way to the Amherst 10 yard line, leading to a field goal, Fleming's first points of the season.
The D stepped up again later in the quarter - Unique Johnson made an acrobatic interception in the end zone, killing another Lancer drive on Fleming's side of the field. But Amherst kept it on the ground, Brown turned the first half hat trick with TAmherst County
William Fleming number three, Amherst moves to 2 and 0 with the 39 to 3 win over William Fleming.
