Lord Botetourt and first-year head coach Jamie Harless have been the biggest early season surprises in the region.

Fresh off two straight wins at Bogle Stadium over Hidden Valley and Cave Spring, the Cavaliers faced Blacksburg on Friday night on Hall of Fame night at the school, with a chance to go 4-1, which would be their best start since the 9-1 season in 2000.

The Botetourt students were trying to fire their team up, down 11-0at the half.

The Cavs put together a drive to the Blacksburg 2 yard line, aided by an 18 yard pass play from Alex Hampton to Dylan Gusler. But on fourth down from the two, Chris Thompson got stuffed at the line by the Blacksburg defense and the Cavs turn it over on downs. The Bruins missed a field goal giving the ball back, and Hampton hooked up with Gusler again on a big time connection moving the ball to midfield.

With just over a minute to play, the Cavs last hope gets snuffed out when Kaleb Bohrnstedt intercepted the overthrown pass from Hampton.  Blacksburg hung on for the mild upset win, 11-0 over Lord Botetourt.
