It had been nearly a month since Pulaski County was in the friendly confines of Kenneth Dobson Stadium in Dublin. That night in mid-September, they knocked off a Richlands team that had a 32 game regular season winning streak. The Blue Tornado also had a stout passing attack and the Cougars were ready for more of the same from Cave Spring this week.
The Cougars were coming off perhaps the biggest win in the Todd Jones era as head coach, last week over Christiansburg.
Midway through the first quarter on the 4th down and two, Cave Spring was showing punt but fullback James Jackson took the snap for a run up the middle for 14 yards to give them a first down in the red-zone thanks to the fake. Later in that drive from the 9 yard line Connor Baker threw to Jordan Bryant. He then fumbled the ball just short but still fell into the end zone. That puts the Knights up 7 to nothing.
In the second quarter, Pulaski County had the ball in their own territory. Marcus Johnston quickly threw to Marcus McClanahan for a first down a few yards up the sideline. To cap off the drive Johnston threw to Tyler Irvine who dashes down the field untouched with defenders nipping at his heels for a 47 yard touchdown. The Cougars missed the extra point but still put 6 on the board.
Pulaski trailed 10-6 at the break. Cave Spring with the road upset 17 to 14 the final.
