The Christiansburg Blue Demons traveled to Roanoke County Friday night looking to get a step closer to another River Ridge District title as they took on Cave Spring. The Knights are still very much alive in that district race, but needed a win over the Blue Demons to keep pace. It was also a matchup between two of the area's top players in Christianburg's Brendan Motley and Cave Spring's Sam Wright.
Miserable conditions at Bogle Stadium, pretty much the norm. Christiansburg wasted no time in getting started. Zach Snell gets the call and makes the most of it. Snell turns on the jets around the left side. Snell's got speed in the genes and he motors past the Cave Spring 'D' and doesn't stop until he hits paydirt, and the Demons were on top 7-nothing.
Sam Wright evened things up for his team though just a few minutes later. How about the tough run for 20 yards and a touch. The two point conversion made it 8-7 Knights.
Christiansburg doesn't like being behind so Joey Augustin keeps the scoreboard operator busy. He's moving quickly on another big hitter for the Blue Demons. 61 more big yards and just like that the visitors were back out front 14 to 8.
It was tied at 14 by the half. But Cave surged in front before Christiansburg went to work again. It's Augustin finishing the drive and with less then three minutes to play, the Demons clung to a 21-20 advantage.
No panic in the Knights though. Tony Simmons helped convert a fourth down and then Simmons scores the game winner on the keeper. Cave Spring knocks Christiansburg from the ranks of the unbeaten 26-21.
