Blacksburg Head Coach Dave Crist began his 36th season on the sidelines Friday night at Bill Brown Stadium. The Bruins hosted the single wingers from Giles.
Terrence Travis faked the pass and took off up the middle, ducked would-be tacklers, tip-toed down the far sideline on the 27 yard touchdown all by himself, and Blacksburg led 7-nothing late in the first.
Brad Kessinger tried to answer for Giles. He threw it up. It was good for a 12 yard pickup and a Spartans first down.
Adam Baker kept things moving. On the next play, he handed to Blake Martin. Martin motored for 12 more yards and another Giles first down.
Then Baker tossed to Kessinger on the pitch, and he danced down the far sideline, avoided the defense on a 33 yard TD scamper. It was 7-all midway thru the 2nd quarter.
Blacksburg won Friday night 30 to 7.
