Blacksburg started 6-foot-6 Kaleb Bohrnstedt at quarterback Friday against Giles,  as Coach Dave Crist convinced the basketball standout to try football.  While the Bruins gained a player in the offseason, the Spartans lost one in back Ethan Mitchell who transferred back to Brooke Point in Northern Virginia.

Blacksburg students were banging the trash cans as they tried to rally their team to come back from an early deficit against the Spartans.

We pick it up in the 4th quarter with the score 17-10, Giles in the lead.

That's when Ian Mann of Giles zigzagged across both ends of the field for a 57-yard touchdown run. Mann showing off his fleet feet, to make it 24-10 Giles.  That two touchdown advantage ended up being huge.

On the next Blacksburg possession, Bohrnstedt's throw is knocked out of the air and nearly intercepted by Spartan Zack Simmons.

Later in the 4th quarter, with the score still 24-10, Giles was forced to punt and it was blocked by Morgan McCoy and recovered by Blacksburg.

On the next play, the Bruins couldn't stand prosperity as Will Ingram fumbled the ball. It was recovered by Brad Lipes of the Spartans.

Tyler Perdue put Giles up 31-10 late in the 4th quarter by hurdling into the endzone.  From there Giles cruised to the 31-17 win.
