The defending state champs from Gretna made the long bus ride to Independence this week to square off against Grayson County.  The Blue Devils were ousted last year by another Dogwood District team in Dan River. The Hawks were perhaps the fastest team the Blue Devils had seen all season.

Grayson got the ball first.  Knocking on the door at the 18 yard line when Max Rogers had his pass tipped but Spencer Roberts still hauled it in for a first down. On the very next play, Roberts was up again, this time keeping it himself, scrambling and diving into the corner of the endzone to put the Blue Devils up 8 to nothing after a successful two-point conversion.

Grayson County got it back a few minutes later and on the first play of the drive, Max Rogers threw a quick pass to Michael Rogers who dashed up the field for 63 big yards all the way to the 13. On 4th and 3 that combo hooked up again.  The slant route went for an easy touchdown.

It was 14 to nothing at that point and 31-7 at the half.  The Blue Devils advance with the 44 to 31 win.
