At Fort Chiswell this week, the Pioneers had already set a school record for wins in a season with 11. Stephen James and his team wanted to set a new one with their 12th, taking on a John Battle team from Bristol, that knocked out Giles a week ago. It was a standing room only crowd tonight at the Fort.
The Pioneers were up 7-nothing in the third quarter. But the Trojans Carter Harlow slipped in on the three yard touchdown to tie the score at 7 and to setup a fantastic finish.
It stayed that way until halfway through the fourth quarter. Corey Vaughn put Fort Chiswell back on top as he broke a tackle and strolled in on the 16 yard touchdown and the Pioneers led 14-7 with 5 minutes to go.
Battle was looking for the equalizer here. Harlow got in again from three yards out to make it 14 to 13. All they needed was the extra point to tie, but the snap got botched. The holder picked it up and lofted the pass to Robert Luchini who hauled it in for the miracle two point conversion. It was 15 to 14 Battle.
Fort Chiswell had one last shot. With 12 ticks left, the fourth down pass to Daniel Hamm fell incomplete and John Battle ended the season for the Pioneers 15 to 14.
