Two high powered offenses collided this week with Liberty at Rockbridge. It was also a matchup of two players of the week from this season in Liberty's Matthew Smith and Rockbridge's Porter Abell.
The Wildcats were rolling early and Porter Abell was carrying the mail. He took off from the 16, lost the rock, but one of his linemen was able to fall on it, saving the day and the drive. From there, Abell finished things off to give the Cats a 7-0 lead just two minutes in.
Following a Liberty fumble, Rockbridge was at it again. Abell ground it out on the ground, the 10 yard run is his second TD of the night and the Cats were up 14-0. It was 17-zip before Liberty finally got on the board. Austin Porter took this one into the end zone from 12 yards out and the Minutemen were trying to get back in it at 17-7.
After one of seven combined fumbles in the first half, Liberty got it back and took full advantage. Dustin Hiner got he rock inside the 2 to set up another score, the Minutemen were back within four at 17-13 after the missed PAT. But as they seemed to do all night, the Wildcats responded. Abell went upstairs and found Chase Ray, this one went for 64 yards and a score, the Cats led 24-13.
Rockbridge County went on to win a shootout 52 to 40 over Liberty to set up a showdown with Brookville next week.
