The home team hoping to play like royalty in what turned out to be quite the mud bath.
And they were ready from the beginning. Alonzo Bennett makes a mad dash for the end zone and scores the first touchdown of the night on the nifty little run.
But their luck didn't last long. On the point after, they botch the snap and the Bulldogs snuff out the play to keep it a 6-nothing game.
Every dog has his day as the saying goes and later in the first, Ishmel Hairston has his.  Hairston gets the rock and takes off on a 60 yard touchdown putting the Bulldogs ahead 10 to 8.
The field conditions got worse as the night progressed.  The Comets try to make a comeback when Bennett gets the ball, and manuvers through the Bulldog's defense, but he trips, slips and loses the ball. That's a fumble, the Bulldogs recover, but Halifax recovered in the second half to win it 17 to 10 over Martinsville.
