Cave Spring's Sam Wright grabbed Player of the Week honors way back in September for his performance in week 2 of the season.  But his performance last Friday night at Richlands certainly included the Wright stuff, earning Sam an encore appearance as Player of the Week.

There's simply no other way to describe Sam Wright's game in the regional championship last Friday at Richlands other than amazing.  Wright rushed for 303 yards and five touchdowns in Cave Spring's 35-21 win.  He now has nearly 27 hundred yards on the season, to go with a whopping 38 touchdowns.

He’s terrific,” Cave Spring coach Tim Fulton said. “He can run with power and he can run with speed. He has the ability to just make great moves in the hole.  He made a move Friday night that sprung his second touchdown, and it was phenomenal. It was great to see.

“I'm not sure what happened that one night,” Wright said. “I just felt like I had an obligation to my team to leave everything on the field.  At this point in the playoffs, if I don't do what I can, then I'm letting myself and my team down so I just had to do what I could.

With his eye popping stats, Wright has started to garner attention from college recruiters, and Coach Fulton's phone has started to ring fairly often with inquiries about his star tailback.

“The interest is starting to swell now,” Fulton said. “I think anytime you rush for the yards he has against the competition that we played, in the River Ridge and then to do it in the playoffs, it's impressive,” Fulton said.

“I think a lot of the games that I've performed pretty well in, I didn't have anything to lose because right now, nothing is guaranteed for me right now, so I'm trying to make as many opportunities for myself as possible. If that involves running for 300 yards each game, then that's just what I've gotta do,” Wright said.
