Now that we know part of the Blue Ridge picture, it's time to see if Northside would have to share that regular season crown with Rockbridge. A win Friday night and the Wildcats had part of the district title, as Blue Ridge rules do not count head to head wins as tiebreakers. William Byrd had other ideas in Vinton.
The Terriers and the Wildcats were in an even battle, tied at 7 in the first quarter. Porter Abell with the fumble on the hand-off and Byrd's Simeon Horstmann was all over it. He recovered it at the 24, but all it leads to is a missed field goal for the Terriers.
In the second quarter, more turnovers, this one from Rockbridge. Michael Crosswhite intercepted Abell's pass at the goal line and returned it to the 22.
But Rockbridge made sure to finish the drive the next time around. Adam Doll-Hennis got the hand-off and took it 34 yards up the left sideline to the house, giving the Wildcats the 14-7 lead.
The Terriers tried to get fancy on their ensuing possession, but Horstman's pass finds Cheyenne Pooley instead of his own teammate. Rockbridge went on to win 21-14, making them co-district champs with Northside.
