Wythe County bragging rights were on the line tonight in Wytheville where the Maroons hosted Rural Retreat for the Hogoheegee District crown.

George Wythe looking for some momentum headed to the postseason.

It was 1st-and-goal for the Maroons on the 5-yard-line thanks to an Indians fumble. Johnathan Turpin takes it up the middle, finds a hole and runs untouched into the endzone to get the first points of the game, putting the Maroons up 7-nothing.

Zayne Williams got the Indians back on track as he keeps the ball, goes up the middle and takes it the full 25 yards putting Rural Retreat on the board. But their 2-point coversion failed, so they're still down 7-6.

Late in the first half the Maroons have the ball from the 4. Tolley runs to the right, finds room and the endzone. Wythe up 14-6.

Then the special teams make a play.  Rural Retreat tries to punt it away but  Myron Wynn gets a hand on it for the block and the Maroons take over from there.

Next play Tolley punches it in from a yard out to put Wythe up 21-6 heading into the locker room.

The Maroons go on to win 42-6.
