Friday night's Seminole showdown between Rustburg and E.C. Glass showed how tightly-matched that division is.
Rustburg got on the board first, but then gave up 20 unanswered points. The Red Devils trailed 20-7 in the third quarter.
We pick things up with the Red Devils on the move and trailing 20-14 in the third quarter. Randall Jones underthrew a pass but it somehow found CT Tweedy wide open. He tiptoes his way up the sideline and in for a 29-yard touchdown. That tied things up at 20.
We fast-forward to double overtime, game tied at 27. Rustburg with the ball, Jones goes went up the gut, and muscled his way through the Hilltopper defense and into the endzone. But the extra-point was no good. Rustburg leads 33-27.
Next E.C. Glass possession and some gutsy play calling. The Hilltoppers look to the air as Josh Sessoms and Michah Manuel connected on a 10-yard touchdown pass to tie things at 33 apiece.
It all comes down to the extra point. George Bennett nailed the biggest extra-point of his career. That sealed it for the Hilltopers. E.C. Glass escaped with a 34-33 win.
