Liberty Christian Academy's Seth Good is excelling at more than just leading a football team on the field.
Good, was really good to start the season for LCA as he threw for over 240 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldog's win over Gretna.
"It is not a surprise to us at all, he is a very heady athlete, he is a very good basketball, baseball player three sport kid, very savvy. The things that we are seeing him do right now, it is just his turn," said Frank Rocco.
Good has to replace Michael Rocco as the LCA quarterback, and those aren't easy shoes to fill. Rocco is currently listed as the co-number two quarterback at UVA as a true freshman.
"I don't really feel any pressure cause I am good friends with Mike. We have always had a good relationship, I actually talked to him yesterday, he is doing great. I don't feel any pressure and all these guys believe in me and know that I can lead," said Seth Good.
One advantage Good had was that he started a few games as a Junior when Rocco was injured.
"Those games were huge cause we had seven thousand people at our Gretna game last year. Playing in front of all those people and getting like 6 or 7 starts last year, I think it really helped me just have confidence for this season knowing that I could I lead this team," said Good.
"He was able to play against Gretna last year he was able to play against Charlotte Christian who we are playing this week, who is a very good team. It was our only regular season loss. So he played against some quality competition and was able to get his feet wet against really good players and good competition, so I think it was extremely valuable and we are seeing the fruits of it this year," said Rocco.
But nothing could prepare Good and the rest of the LCA team as they helped support fellow co-captain Ray Jones who lost his mother and brother in a car accident a few weeks before the season began.
"He is a great friend of mine, and it really hurt him and it kind of hurt me too cause i knew them. It has really affect our team but it has given us motivation to move on a play well this season. We have all told him, we have all hung out with him, he knows that we are here for him. We will do anything for him," said Good.
"Niko, the young man that unfortunately was killed was a teammate last year, so it did hit very very close to everyone's heart here, and Seth and Ray now as team captains have been strong leaders for the rest of the guys and allowing us to continue on," said Rocco.
Good, and the rest of the team are wearing stickers on the back of their helmets to honor Jill and Niko.
