When you're one of two teams left in the Friday Football Extra with no losses on your record, then you probably have a pretty talented team that would have a number of players worthy of consideration for our Player of the Week award.

Christiansburg has had more than a couple this year as they finished off a perfect 10 and 0 run Friday night with a win over Blacksburg, but it was last week's win over Cave Spring that clinched the River Ridge District title.

Brenden Motley has been the quarterback behind Christiansburg's high-rolling offense this season.  Against Cave Spring, Motley tallied over 300 total yards throwing and running also finding the endzone with both his legs and his arm.

Motley has plenty of other options in the run game, or his numbers might be even better.

"I kind of call him our "X" factor on offense, and everybody knows on offense that we have a lot of guys that can do a lot of things. And we spread it around, and we think that is our strength.  But at the quarterback position, he is kind of like the point guard in basketball. he is going to touch the ball on every possession, so for him to break out in the biggest game of the year for us and throw for as many yards as he did and then run for as many as he did, the cool thing is that he made plays when we needed him too," said Tim Cromer.

Brenden also plays defense, which he attributes to some of the success he has on offense.

"I feel like it is kind of to my advantage a little bit since I am quarterback, I understand where the other quarterback is coming from, I understand a little bit of what he might be seeing, I feel like it is to my advantage," said Motley.

Motley and the rest of the crew at Christiansburg won the school's first ever River Ridge District title with the win over the Knights.

"It is a great feeling, it is sweet.  We have always talked about it being like this, we have dreamed about this, and now it is really here, we are excited about this," said Motley.

"It is big for us because I believe it is the toughest Double A District in the state. I think top to bottom, it is a big deal for us to just win the district, you want to try and win and beat those people you see everyday, and the guys you respect the most," said Cromer.

The district title gets the Blue Demons into the post-season, a place they were a year ago advancing all the way to the state semi-finals.

"We came into the season knowing that we could do so much better than we did last year," said Motley.

"There is just no doubt that our experience in the playoffs last year has helped us just with a mentality and an understanding, and expectation, Hey we can do this,' I think that will help us, I hope it will help us as we get into the playoffs," said Cromer.
