The Friday Football Extra Player of the Week award goes to the quarterback of Magna Vista.
Magna Vista's offense has been in high gear this season. The Warriors are averaging over 40 points per game, and the man running the show is Harvey Taylor.
In their first round playoff game against Abingdon, Magna Vista scored 42 points, all in the first half as Taylor threw for three scores and ran for another.
"We weren't expecting it, becuase we had never seen a team like them, never seen them the whole year, but we just went out there and played," said Taylor.
Taylor is the man making the decisions that have the Warriors running at max speed.
"When his number is called to run the ball he does a very good job, he read some in our offense, he does a very good job of deciding when to give it to TC and when to pull it. He has done a great job of throwing it for us this year and protecting the ball for us this year. He just understands what he is doing and goes back there and makes plays," said Joe Favero.
Taylor and the rest of the Warriors have made Magna Vista a threat again.
"Its evolved from two seasons ago, we went zero and 10 playing out there, now we have picked it back up and playing Magna Vista football," said Taylor.
Overcoming adversity on the field pales in comparison to what Taylor dealt with before the Abingdon game, his brother Shayvone suffered a spinal cord injury during a Junior Varsity game the Monday before their first round playoff game.
"He is doing a lot better right now, he is walking and talking, he is doing everything, using every part of himself, he is working on getting a full recovery," said Taylor.
Harvey went out for the game with his brother's blessing.
"It is very hard to see him like that but I know I still have to go out and play my game because he still wants me to go out there and play. He said no matter what he is going to be by my side he is still going to be out there looking at me to play football," said Taylor.
"When you got something like it is a tough situation, but he wanted to play and he did a good job when he stepped on the field for practice that week and when he stepped on the field Friday for the game he was focused and there with his teammates and they were there for him and they just did a good job together," said Favero.
Harvey had hoped to play with his brother next year who is a sophomore, but for now he will have to settle for him being the Warriors biggest fan.
"He is going to be there every step of the way no matter what. No matter where I go he is going to be right there with me," said Taylor.
