Altavista won the state title last year behind some great running from senior Quarterback Johnny Winbush. It was tough to tell how good the Colonels would be without him, but apparently they have a good replacement.

Chris Miles has the story of this weeks Friday Football Extra Player of the Week Rick Adams.

It is not often that a special teams player is special enough to get Player of the Week honors.  Altavista's punter was that special player this week. But not for his efforts with his good foot, more for his efforts with his good arm.

Rick Adams tossed for three touchdowns and 294 yards, completing fourteen of his 26 passes in a win over James River.

While the decision to start Adams at quarterback was an easy one because of his arm, it was his 90 yards on just 10 carries that was more of a unique experience for the multi-talented QB.

Look for Rick to become more of a dual threat as he really hits his stride during his junior year for the Colonels. Afterall, he is already an FFE Player of the Week.
