The 27th season of Friday Football Extra kicks off tonight. Our First Team Auto Mall Spotlight Game of the Week is Northside and Jefferson Forest.
And there isn't a better way to kick off the season than with the defending Division III state champions and their first home game of 2010.
This is the first time since they held up that state title trophy in Blacksburg that Northside will put the pads back on for real.
Northside will take on Jefferson Forest, the same team they begin last season against.
"We have a lot of memories from being down at Jefferson Forest last year. and Coach Rice is a graduate of Northside, played here for Coach Hickam, so it will be nice for him to come home. The celebration is really for the fans and that is really for the community, it has been long overdue for that state championship. It is our 50th year, so we will have decades of celebration throughout the whole year at each home game. We are asking a lot of alumni to come back and celebrate, not only our state championship, but also what our school has done in 2009 and many years earlier," said Burt Torrence.
