The Northside Vikings had won 11 straight Blue Ridge District games dating back to 2008. But that last loss came against William Byrd. Friday night, the Terriers were smelling the upset at Jim Hickam Field.
Northside got on the board on the first play of the second quarter. Adam Hardister going up top for Tyler Fisher who makes the great grab for the 34 yard touchdown, and the Vikings led 7-nothing.
Byrd was up for the challenge though. Simeon Horstman gets the call, and he breaks tackles for good yardage and a first down at the Northside eleven yard line.
Two plays later, Horstman again. This time he sniffs the endzone to tie the game at 7 by halftime. The Terriers and Jeff Highfill then open the bag of tricks in the third quarter. Zac Hill hands to Horstman and he gives it to Joe Barton for the throwback to Hill and check out this effort.
The quarterback fights for a big gain. He goes 46 yards and breaks a tackle at the goal line to give Byrd the lead 14-7.
But Northside had an answer in Fisher. He comes around the end looking for the zone and gets it despite the big pop. That tied things up and Northside came back to win it close 21 to 20.
