LYNCHBURG, Va. -

A former local high school football player is transferring from Penn State to Liberty University.

Flames coach Turner Gill announced Thursday that Tanner Hartman has been added to the 2014 football roster.

The six-foot-six-inch, 290-pound offensive lineman redshirted during the 2013 season at Penn State. He was part of former Nittany Lions coach Bill O’Brien’s 17-member recruiting class in 2013. O’Brien is now the head coach of the NFL’s Houston Texans.

Hartman is from Christiansburg High School and played high school football at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg. His father, Tom Hartman, was a standout offensive lineman at Virginia Tech from 1982-1984.

“We are excited to announce the transfer of Tanner Hartman to Liberty,” commented Gill. “Tanner is passionate about the game of football. He is athletic and is a physical player.”
