ROANOKE CO., Va. -

The Cave Spring Knights had a chance to get back to the .500 mark on the season this week, following an 0 and 2 start, hosting Alleghany on the rug at Bogle Stadium.

It was homecoming night at Cave Spring and the Knights were out to celebrate in a big way but the Mountaineers had other plans.

Alleghany wasted no time getting on the board.

Nick Ferrell got the party started as he found Trent Rust for the touchdown and made it 7 to 0 Mounties.

Cave Spring got untracked after a couple of empty possessions.    Alex Emery called his own number and found lots of daylight getting downfield deep into Highlander territory, motoring 43 yards to put the Knights in business.

On the very next play, Jon Roach took the handoff right up the gut for the touchdown and put Cave Spring on the board 7 to 7.

Emery kept things moving.  This time he did it himself again.  The nice gain moved the sticks, and Cave had all the momentum.

Two plays later, Emery came off the left side, the exact same play,  and capped off an 81 yard drive for the Knights.

Cave Spring had a big lead and then held on to beat Alleghany 30 to 28.
