CHATHAM, Va. -

The Altavista Colonels had already sewn up a playoff spot, but the Colonels were playing for a high seed.  Coach Mike Scharnus and company on the road this week at Chatham.  

It was homecoming for the Chatham Cavaliers and alumni packed the home stands.

In the first quarter, Altavista quarterback Juan Thornhill ran the ball through the middle of Chatham's defense, and jumped over a would-be tackler. Thornhill took it 35 yards before getting pushed out near the two yard line.

The next play doesn't work as planned. Thornhill was looking for a reciever but got pulled down by Chatham. He didn't gain any yards.

A few plays later and Altavista backed up to the 20. Thornhill found Demitre Maulbeck in the endzone for the 20-yard TD toss. Altavista took a 7-zip lead.

Chatham took over with the ball on Altavista's 40 yard line. RJ Walton dove through the Colonels' defense and picked up 10 yards and a first down before getting brought down by Darius Johnson.

The Cavaliers couldn't punch it in. Three plays later Chatham got on the scoreboard with a 30-yard field goal. Altavista went on to win this one, 28-3.
