RUSTBURG, Va. -

The Rustburg Red Devils had five wins under new head coach Jack Baker, had already matched their win total from last year heading into this week's contest against Juan Thornhill and a speedy Altavista Colonels team, a team that is bidding to grab the top seed in 1A East. The Red Devils were looking to add to that win total.

Altavista would have something to say about that. Kenavus Jones fielded the kick off at the 11. He found a crease and was gone. Jones took it 89 yards for a Colonels touchdown. That was the start the Colonels were looking for. It was 7-zip Altavista early.

Rustburg responded. Anthony Lovelace found Will Morris in the end zone for a 22-yard strike. The game was tied at 7 apiece.

More Rustburg next. Randall Jones was a ramblin' man who was weaving his way through some heayy traffic.  Jones kept his feet moving for 54 yards, before being taken down at the 7-yard line of Altavista.

This is a candidate for highlight of the year; Lovelace sprinted toward the goal line and flipped over a Colonel defender, sticking the landing. The acrobatic play put the Red Devils up 13-7.

In the third quarter,Altavista's Clydale Moon got the hand off and ran away from the pack. He went 79 yards on a huge play. Cam Scott brought him down inside the 10.

Destin Brown then punched it in from 1 yard out to put Altavista up 14-13.

Altavista went on to win 24 to 21.
