ALLEGHANY, Va. -

The annual battle for the Brackman Cup took place at Alleghany this week. Covington grabbed the Cup from its neighbors last year for the very first time.

It was Hall of Fame night as four new inductees got the call to the Alleghany Hall.

On the opening drive for Covington, Luke Moye swung it out to Kashan Carter. That was good for a gain of 16 big yards into Mountaineer territory and that led to a field goal.

To the ensuing kickoff, Austin Leffler got some help from the wedge out front and raced 56 yards, lowering his shoulder and getting to the 36 yard line of Covington where the Mountaineers setup shop.

Alleghany capitalized on the field position as Christian Carter punched it up the middle from 5 yards out. That made it a 6-3 ballgame.

Covington was on the move again up 10-6 at this point, but not for long as Alleghany's Logan Burks came up with the forced fumble and fell on it giving the Cougars another golden opportunity.

Four plays later, Matt Peterson hit Derek Tremblay who made the leaping catch in the corner of the endzone.

The two point conversion was good and the Mountaineers were back on top 14-10. The Brackman Cup changed hands again as Alleghany took out Covington 28 to 10.
