As for the game itself, it was like the old days. The Cougars and Blues had combined for 13 wins already this season.
Early in the first quarter Covington was up 7 to 6 when Luke Moye took the ball on a keeper for a nice gain of about 15 yards to move the chains for the Cougars.
Moye called his own number again a few plays later and cruised in for the Covington touchdown. The extra point was no good and it was 13 to 6 Covington.
Several drives later, after a blocked punt, Parry McCluer got things going. Rayheem Dawson broke free down field taking the ball down to the 11 yard line. Dawson was showing off some speed to put the Blues in business.
A couple of plays later Logan Arthur took it in up the middle for a Parry McCluer touchdown and it was all tied at 13-apiece.
The Cougars then went to the bag of tricks. It was Moye on the toss to Brandon Phillips who heaved it deep in the endzone to Colton Howard. The extra point was good and Covington was back on top by a touchdown.
It was 20 to 16 Cougars at the half but Parry McCluer was not giving up in the 3rd quarter, going for it on 4th and 12 when Dawson caught a nice pass in Covington territory for a gain of 16 yards.
Dawson finished off the drive sliding into the endzone for the touchdown and Parry McCluer hung on to beat Covington 29 to 27.
