GRAYSON CO., Va. -

In Independence this week, the unbeaten Fort Chiswell tried to stay that way against Grayson County in the annual Mountain Empire ruckus between the two schools.

In the first drive, Grayson QB Tyler Lundy threw up a wounded duck. Fort Chiswell's Chase Rathbone picked it out of the air.

On the next play Dallas Ward went around the right side and picked up 15 yards, down to the Blue Devils' 45-yard-line.

Five plays later Fort Chiswell scored, Patrick Beidelman scampered 31 yards untouched. Turned on the jets, and took it in for 6. Fort Chiswell leads 7-nothign early.

Grayson County tried to respond. Lundy threw a quick pass to James Williams who ran up the far sideline 31 yards to the Pioneers 19.

On 4th-and-5 from the Fort Chiswell 14, Lundy pitched it up to WIlliams up the middle for the score. He found daylight and popped out the other side. 7-6 Fort Chiswell mid first quarter.

The Pioneers roll from there, 41-12.
