The Glenvar Highlanders have been hard at work in the first week of high school football practice. Kevin Clifford's team has a good nucleus of players returning from last year's club that posted its second straight playoff berth and anything less than a postseason run this year would be a huge disappointment in Highlander Heaven.
"We expect to make another run at the playoffs," said Glenvar Coach Kevin Clifford. "This is something with the expanded playoffs. We should if we're competing. We feel like we've gotten to that competitive part, we've just got to get over the hump. The hump is a Giles, Radford and Floyd's and an improved Auburn. We have a tough schedule, but to get over it we just have to keep working and keep improving."
The Highlanders won three straight games last season to get into the playoffs before falling to Wilson Memorial in the first round.
This year they'll be relying on experience, especially at the quarterback spot where Levi Mullins returns.
With opening night just three weeks away, competing with each other now is helping to build a solid foundation.
