FOREST, Va. -

In Bedford County Jefferson Forest has focused on defense throughout the preseason after the Cavaliers gave up 56 points or more on four different occasions last season.

Don Rice's team was out to make sure that Halifax County didn't get close to that many Friday night.

Jefferson Forest played some defense early in this one. Sean Burch made a nice interception for the Cavaliers to put the home team in business.

They make good on the turnover. Ryan Crist found Courtney Goodwill on the touchdown hookup and it was 7-0 Jefferson Forest.

The Blue Comets tried to get something cooking. They gave it to Roland Brandon, who rumbled for good yardage and a first down.

Richard Jacobs showed some ability. He hauled in the touchdown pass to tie the game at seven apiece.

But the Cavs had an answer. Michael Foster took the handoff and ran it in for another touchdown and a 14-7 lead. Jefferson Forest opens the season with a 55 to 14 win over Halifax.
