SALEM, Va. -

Lord Botetourt had outscored its first two opponents 88 to nothing entering Friday night’s contest at Glenvar where the Cavs’ Chris Thompson and company hoped to keep it rolling.

The clearing skies and falling temperatures made it feel more like football season in Highlander Heaven where Glenvar was also celebrating rec night.

The home team struck quickly. QB Levi Mullins found Jeremy Martin. That turned into a huge play for Glenvar. The 69-yard TD gave the Highlanders a 7-0 edge, and they were smelling the upset.

The Highlander defense did its part early, forcing the Cavs to go for it on 4th-and-5. Thomas Hickman picked up 14 yards and a first down keeping, the drive alive.

Nick Webb used that momentum to connect with Nathan McClellan, who stretched across the goal line to put Lord Botetourt up 8-7 after a two-point conversion.

The Cavaliers’ Matt Henderlite then made a play by picking off the Mullins pass and bringing the ball back inside the Glenvar 20 yard line.

Austin Oyler then dove across the goal line. Another two-point conversion made it 16-7 Lord Botetourt at the end of the first quarter.

Lord Botetourt went on to win it, 38-16. CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE PHOTOS:
